A Brief History of the Mid Atlantic BX

Mid Atlantic BX, formerly Harrisburg Builders Exchange, was founded in 1938 by a group of contractors, suppliers and architects to facilitate the exchange of information between all segments of the construction industry. Over the years, the BX has grown to over 1,300 Member Companies

From the beginning, the BX has been providing exceptional construction reporting services to our Members. This service encompasses over 14,000 projects reported annually, located throughout the Mid Atlantic region, including Central and Eastern Pennsylvania, Northern Maryland, Central and Southern New Jersey and Delaware. This project coverage area is a direct response to our Members' requests for project information in these geographic regions.

Members have the ability to use both a physical Planroom (the last one in our region), and an on-line service. The on-line service or COOL (Construction Opportunities On-Line) provides 24-hour per day, 7-day per week access to blueprints, specifications, addenda, bidders lists and other pertinent bidding documents. Additionally, our Members have a wide variety of other services to assist them with the development of their business, including industry specific educational training and seminars, social and networking events, discounted employee benefits and an annual Construction Buyers Guide.

1973 the BX began recognizing employees of Member companies for exceptional work on construction projects through the Craftsmanship Awards Program. This unique award recognizes the person who "wore the tool-belt" on the project, acknowledging that without these talented men and women, construction does not happen! To further train and promote the workforce in the construction industry, the BX began presenting "Craftsmen of the Future" Awards to senior students involved in Vocational Technical programs. Since the start of these programs, nearly 700 Craftsmen have received awards for their outstanding skills and abilities.

Because the BX is a not-for-profit company, the cost of our annual Membership is offered at a fraction of our for-profit competitors. The cost of Membership to Mid Atlantic BX is 75% to 90% LESS than that of the typical competition, with additional services and resources, PLUS the most ACCURATE, RELIABLE and TIMELY information available anywhere!
