A Brief History of the Mid Atlantic BX

The Mid Atlantic BX was founded in 1938 by a group of contractors, suppliers, and architects to facilitate the "exchange" of information between all segments of the construction industry.  Shortly after its inception the Mid Atlantic BX began reporting on construction projects that were out for bid and continues to do so today.

Over the years the Exchange has provided numerous services not only for the Members, but the entire construction community.  From 1947-1972 the Exchange organized and hosted 26 Builders Shows that were recognized as one of the nations largest during that period, drawing close to 250,000 people per year.

In 1973 the Exchange began recognizing Member companies and their employees for the highest grade of workmanship through the Craftsmanship Awards Program.  Over the years, the Exchange has awarded hundreds of craftsmen for their exceptional abilities and will continue to do so.

To further promote the work force for the construction industry the Exchange began awarding "Craftsmen of the Future" awards in 1995.  These awards are bestowed on senior students from the local Vocational-Technical Schools and are sponsored by Members of the Exchange.  The Mid Atlantic BX feels it is imperative that we are productive in our efforts to help the schools train and promote the work force for our industry.

Today, the Mid Atlantic BX offers a variety of services to over 500 Member companies from health insurance to social activities to retirement plans.  But the foundation of the Exchange, as always, can be found in our construction reporting service.  These reports are now distributed via the internet along with addenda and other pertinent information.  This is in addition to our traditional Plan Room services and weekly Construction Bulletin.

A leader in the construction reporting service, the Mid Atlantic BX is well positioned for its journey into the 21st century.
