HARRISBURG, Pa. – Mid Atlantic BX (MABX) director of project information Trisha Mays announced today that the organization added a record 1,603 new construction projects to its online plan room in May. This is the second-highest monthly total in the trade association's 74-year history. MABX reported 1,619 projects in March of 2011.
This was MABX's highest monthly total ever for May, and an increase of 247 projects over last May's total.
The MABX online plan room, COOL (Construction Opportunities Online), is a comprehensive construction reporting service for the Mid-Atlantic region. COOL consists of construction project information, plans, specs, addenda and other documents from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Northern Maryland. The association's project information department includes a team of construction project analysts who search the region for public and private non-residential construction projects. MABX members can then access that project information to prepare bids and win construction jobs.
"We are proud to announce that our project information team has set a record for the month of May, and nearly passed our highest monthly total," said Chad C. Harvey, secretary of the MABX board of directors. "While our plan room doesn't contain every project in the region, the activity in May is an encouraging sign for the construction economy. Our total plan room numbers for the year are nearly equal to the first five months of 2011, which is what we anticipated at the beginning of the year. However, the fact that we are seeing more projects come in at this point in the year is very positive for the industry."
According to Mays, the project information team reported 495 civic projects in May, the most of any project type. Other May highlights include: 393 educational projects, 254 roadwork projects, 166 department of transportation projects, 66 waste, water and power plant projects, and 61 sewer and water lines.
MABX gathers comprehensive construction project information from sources in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Northern Maryland. Although the MABX staff actively pursues project information on a daily basis, not all commercial construction projects in the region are provided to MABX. Through June 8, 2012, MABX has added 6,602 new projects.
